Supporting Men's and Women's Participation in Childcare

Support for gender equality in childcare (Japan)
Canon Medical Systems has established a variety of systems that go beyond legal requirements to allow employees to raise children without anxiety, including a childcare leave system that can be used until the child turns 3 years old, and a shorter working hours system that allows employees to work up to two hours less per day until the child completes elementary school.
In addition, a five-day paternity leave system is in place for male employees whose spouses have given birth.

Creating a Workplace Where Childcare and Careers Can Be Balanced

Olea Medical SA has introduced several measures to support its employees in their role as parents, to improve quality of life and working conditions (QVCT).

Outline of the childcare support system:
Enhanced paternity leave
Full salary is maintained during the 21 days of statutory paternity leave, enabling fathers to actively participate in childcare from the moment of their child’s birth.

Extended maternity leave system
Mothers have the option to extend their leave, with 80% of their salary maintained, if they submit requests before the start of statutory maternity leave.
- Up to 6 months after the birth of the 1st or 2nd child
- Up to 9 months for the 3rd child and beyond
- Up to 10 months in the case of multiple births

Phased return-to-work support (3-week program)
Starting from two days a week, the return to full-time work is completed by the fourth week. 90% of the salary is paid on leave days. Requests must be submitted at least one month prior to the return date.

Leave for a sick child
Four days of leave per child under 16 years of age can be taken per year. 90% of the salary is maintained. Submission of a medical certificate is required.
These measures aim to provide a better work-life balance, supporting employees in their parenting role while ensuring their well-being at work.
In line with Liaoning Province policy, Canon Medical Systems R&D (Dalian) Co., Ltd. offers 158 days of maternity leave to its female employees who have given birth. We offer more generous support than mandated by the government’s policy, providing two months of leave before the birth of the first child and continuing after the birth until the child turns one year old. For the second and subsequent births, one month of leave may be taken prior to the child's birth.

Support for Working Women (Support Outside the Company)

To support working women, Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc. is offering complimentary, accredited content to the public during Women's History Month, honoring the achievements of women in the medical field. Additionally, Olea Medical SA supports women's aid associations, such as Fairembo, a medical initiative aimed at reducing blood loss during childbirth.

Supporting the Future of Women and Children - Contributing to the Local Community through Support for the Zahra Foundation

The Zahra Foundation is an Australian charity that supports women and children affected by domestic and family violence. It provides financial counseling, educational programs, and pathways to financial independence, helping survivors rebuild confidence and stability in their lives. Canon Medical Systems ANZ Pty Ltd. proudly supported the foundation in recognition of International Women's Day, aligning with its commitment to gender equality and community well-being.

Engineering Internships

In 2024, Canon Medical Systems ANZ Pty Ltd. offered two engineering internships to students at the University of Western Australia. One of these was provided as part of the Women in Engineering initiative. The initiative aims to support and empower women pursuing careers in engineering by providing them with hands-on industry experience, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

Paving the Way for Women to Succeed in STEM: Girls in STEM Day by Canon Medical and DIMA

As part of its ongoing efforts to foster gender diversity in science and technology, Canon Medical Systems ANZ Pty Ltd. and DIMA (The Diagnostic Imaging and Monitoring Association) hosted a special "Girls in STEM Day" for grade 10 computing technology students and grade 11 engineering students.
Held at Canon Medical's offices, the event provided students with a hands-on, immersive experience of advanced diagnostic imaging technologies. Under the guidance of Canon's expert engineers and clinical specialists, students learned about real-world applications of STEM in healthcare, particularly in biomedical science and diagnostic imaging.
This initiative not only showcased exciting career pathways in the STEM field but also highlighted the importance of female representation in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Support for Working Women (Support Within the Company)

Promoting the Canon Medical Systems Women's Network

The Canon Medical Systems Group provides equal opportunities and ensures fair treatment according to ability, regardless of gender. In Japan, we are continuously formulating action plans using relevant legal tools based on the Act on Promotion of Women's Participation and Advancement in the Workplace. In 2023, we launched the Canon Medical Systems Women's Network to foster an inclusive and diverse organizational culture by sharing role models and facilitating networking among women. In 2024, this network expanded into a global team.

Shining Female Leaders on International Women's Day
During International Women's Day, Canon Medical Systems Argentina's General Counsel,Elizabeth Pereyra was honored by FEMAPE, an association of companies from various industries, for her achievements as a woman in a male-dominated business environment. The recognition was featured on FEMAPE's official website and social media platforms. This acknowledgement reflects our ongoing commitment to diversity and the empowerment of women in leadership roles.

2024 Support Activities for Women Who Shine in the Workplace
Canon Medical Equipment (Dalian) Co., Ltd. held a Women's Day event in March 2024. During the first week of the month, the company utilized the WeChat platform to educate female employees on labor laws and regulations, thereby raising awareness of their rights and interests.
A study session titled "Empowerment and Development of Female Employees" was held in March 2024 to promote the personal growth of female employees and enhance their adaptability to the workplace through a multifaceted exchange of professional skills, occupational backgrounds, mental health, and legal rights.
And in May 2024, the company offered specialized training in smartphone photography to enhance the cultural life and positive spirit of its female employees. A total of 30 female employees, including field service personnel and staff members of administrative departments, participated in the event, capturing beautiful moments from a woman’s unique perspective.

To highlight the importance of gender equality in the workplace, all Canon Medical Systems Malaysia staff were invited to participate in an event, with a dress code – purple clothing and accessories.

Support for People with Disabilities

Developing a Future Society with Diverse Human Resources
To realize a sustainable society based on diversity, the Canon Medical Systems Group promotes the creation of an environment in which diverse human resources can confidently demonstrate their abilities. As part of this effort, we have created new employment opportunities for persons with disabilities in collaboration with an indoor hydroponic vegetable farm. The first farm started in 2023, and the second farm newly started in November 2024. Two farm managers, who are in administrative roles, and six farm staff with learning disabilities or mental health problems work together in two teams for each farm, and they are working with a sense of fulfillment while experiencing firsthand the opportunity to connect with society through their work at the farms.
Crops harvested at the farms are donated to kodomo shokudo (children’s cafeteria) providing free or low-cost meals for children in need located near the Canon Medical Systems headquarters, providing free or inexpensive meals to children, their parents, and local residents, who are very happy to receive them.

Canon Medical Systems, Ltd. in the UK sponsors Support Dogs, a charity organization that identifies and trains support animals to assist people with epilepsy and autism. Working with the University of Bristol and Canon Medical Systems, Ltd., the company evaluates the health economic benefits of introducing support dogs. The study identifies benefits to individuals and cost reduction for healthcare services.

External Recognition (Domestic)

Canon Medical Systems offers various systems and policies to support employees who wish to balance work and family life, including childcare assistance. The company will continue to help employees choose work styles that suit their circumstances. As a "childcare support company" based on the Act on Advancement of Measures to Support the Development of the Next Generation, Canon Medical Systems has continuously received the "Kurumin Mark*1" from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare since 2007*2.

Given to companies that formulate plans to create a childcare-friendly workplace environment and meet certification criteria, such as achieving status, the company was most recently certified by Kurumin in 2021.

Canon Medical Systems recognizes the achievements of its group employees through various certification and award programs.
The award recognizes companies, divisions, teams, and individuals within the Canon Medical Group who have made significant contributions to the development of the company's business through Canon Medical activity and in product domains. Other awards include the Invention Award for employees who have contributed to inventions and intellectual property activities, the Quality Award for outstanding activities that have improved quality and productivity, awards for individuals who have contributed to manufacturing with a wide range of skills, and awards to honor exceptional skills that Canon Medical seeks to pass along to others.

Canon Medical Systems is pleased to announce that Tetsuya Kawagishi, who is a Canon Medical corporate executive, was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon in the spring of 2024. The Medal with Purple Ribbon is a national award presented to individuals who have made outstanding achievements in academic research, the arts, culture, and other fields of endeavor.

Mr. Kawagishi received the Medal with Purple Ribbon for his involvement in developing novel diagnostic ultrasound technology employing differential harmonics and second harmonics to enable high-resolution imaging of tissues located deep within the body, which cannot be visualized using conventional ultrasound technology.

In September 2024, Jay Vaishnav, a director of Canon Medical Informatics, Inc., was named a distinguished fellow of the RAPS Fellow Program by the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society (RAPS) in the United States.
The RAPS Fellow Program recognizes exceptional leaders who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and sustained contributions in the regulatory field. Individuals selected as Fellows are conferred the prestigious rank and title "Fellow of RAPS" (FRAPS).
Fellows serve as key advisors and mentors, facilitating strategic collaborations, implementing special initiatives, and contributing to the development of the international regulatory community as a whole.

Canon Medical Systems provides a structured training program tailored for each position. From new hires to executives, we provide learning opportunities at every step of the career path. We also offer additional programs, including global training, job-specific education, and self-development opportunities.

Training of Various Experts: Sales Personnel (Japan)
We provide various training and education programs with the goal of sales personnel being able to complete business negotiations with medical practitioners by themselves by the third year of employment. In addition to medical basics and product knowledge, we have also introduced training programs to enhance sales skills, including presentations and business negotiation role-plays, to develop sales skills that meet diverse customer needs. We also provide educational content, such as tablet-based learning tools, that enable self-development during Spare time.

Training of Various Experts: Research and Development Engineers (Japan)
We offer practical training and educational curricula in medicine and engineering, including hands-on training at Tokyo Women's Medical University and the National Institute of Informatics, to enhance research and development skills. This provides opportunities to experience firsthand actual medical practice and advanced research. We provide solid support for new engineers, including a "work assignment system" to foster them in the long term and help them acquire the ability to conduct research and development based on cutting-edge, specialized fundamental technologies from the perspective of actual practice.

Training of Various Experts: Production Engineers (Japan)
Production engineers focus on methods to translate the results of research and development into a tangible product. Through practical training, production engineers will acquire the necessary knowledge and learn the procedures required for parts procurement.

Training of Various Experts: Service Support Engineers (Japan)
Service support engineers conduct inspections, repairs, and other maintenance tasks. We provide training to enhance skills, including understanding the types of problems commonly encountered in actual practice, as well as preventive methods.

Acquisition and Retention of Human Resources
Canon Medical Systems is focusing on acquiring and retaining excellent human resources who will drive business globalization and innovation for sustainable growth. To achieve this, we coordinate our recruitment, assignment, and training measures based on a consistent policy.
In terms of acquiring human resources, we have actively recruited 683 personnel at Canon Medical Systems and its affiliated companies, both within and outside Japan, in 2024. In addition, to ensure that each employee can maintain a high level of motivation and demonstrate their abilities over the long term, we are enhancing systems to support employees' continued employment, including a career matching system (internal recruitment system) and a support system for balancing work with childcare and nursing care. We also strive to enhance employee engagement by conducting an employee awareness survey every two years and sharing the results with each department, including management, for use in the development of departmental policies.

Role- and Performance-Based Wage System
Canon Medical Systems has introduced a "role-based wage system," in which compensation is determined by job roles and performance, aiming to achieve fair and equitable treatment and compensation for personnel, regardless of age or sex.
The role-based wage system is a system in which the base salary is determined based on role grades, reflecting the difficulty of the job, and the annual salary is determined by evaluating performance, processes, and actions over the year. Bonuses reflect not only individual performance but also the company's overall performance.

Employment of Local Human Resources at Production Sites
Canon Medical Systems’ production sites utilize local human resources to contribute to the revitalization of the local society and economy through job creation. In hiring, we guarantee a salary well above the minimum wage in each region.

Promoting Flexible Work Styles

Canon Medical Systems promotes flexible work styles that take into account the labor practices of each country and region.
For example, since 2005, Canon Medical Systems has formulated an action plan in line with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan to promote flexible work styles, help employees balance work and family life, and support the development of the next generation.
We have also introduced a telework system that can be used up to six times a month to enhance productivity, as well as a flextime system that aims to achieve work efficiency while promoting a balance between work and family life.
Furthermore, the paid holiday system grants 24 days of paid leave per year, which can also be taken in half-day or hourly increments, making the system easily accessible to all employees. In addition, we have introduced a free vacation system to help all employees take consecutive holidays, which can be used for family time, as well as domestic and international travel.

Our paid holiday utilization rate exceeds the Japanese government's numerical target of 70% annual paid holiday utilization by 2025.

The telework system has also been introduced at our group companies outside Japan, creating an environment in which employees with childcare or nursing care responsibilities can continue to work without anxiety. This lays a foundation, ensuring that people with diverse circumstances are able to work together effectively.

In addition, Canon Medical Korea Co., Ltd. promotes flexible work styles by introducing a "refresh day" system, which reduces work hours to four hours on Fridays two to three times a month, to maintain a good work-life balance for employees.
